CORK COVERINGS FOR GREAT COMFORT AND TRUE RELAXATION
Cork coverings for interiors offer a range of benefits that make them an excellent choice when it comes to decorating and enhancing domestic or commercial spaces.
With cork on the walls, you instantly create a cozy and quiet atmosphere: that’s what makes cork fantastic. It's a natural insulator, making the environment more comfortable by retaining warmth in the winter and reducing unwanted noise. Imagine how pleasant it would be to have a quiet, peaceful room at home, or perhaps a more isolated office where you can concentrate better.
There's also an ecological aspect to consider: cork is a natural material, harvested from the bark of the cork oak tree without harming the tree. It is recyclable and can be easily reintroduced into the environment at the end of its life.
Think about humid spaces like the bathroom or kitchen. Cork is resistant to moisture and mold, making it perfect for these areas. You won’t need to worry about pesky mold on the walls, ensuring a healthier environment.
And then there’s the aesthetic aspect! Cork coverings come in many finishes and styles. You can choose from a wide range of colors and textures to create a unique design that suits your taste and style.
Lastly, consider the practical side: cork repels dust and dirt, making it ideal for allergy sufferers. It’s also antistatic, so it doesn’t attract dust like other synthetic materials.
Exposed Cork Covering
Cork coverings always improve the thermal and acoustic insulation of spaces, but they can also become an integral part of the room's aesthetic if we leave the cork visible instead of hiding it behind other materials. It can be used to completely cover walls or as decorative panels, adding texture, depth, and a natural touch to the space.
On our website, you can choose from countless colors and finishes, allowing you to personalize your space to suit your unique style.
Another characteristic of exposed cork coverings is their versatility. You can use them in a wide range of environments, from your home to your office, from shops to restaurants. They add a touch of originality and can be combined with other materials to create interesting contrasts.
Cork is a natural insulator, so in addition to being aesthetically pleasing, it also helps maintain temperature and reduce unwanted noise. And if you care about the environment, cork is an eco-friendly choice as it is a natural, renewable, and sustainable material.
Moreover, let's not forget the ease of maintenance. Cork coverings are resistant to dust and dirt, requiring only occasional cleaning to keep them in excellent condition.
Cork for damp walls?
When walls are affected by condensation, cork can act as a protective barrier. Its porous nature and breathability allow moisture to be absorbed and gradually released into the environment, preventing it from accumulating on the walls and causing damage.
In addition to solving the moisture problem, cork can also improve the room's thermal insulation. This means it not only reduces the effects of condensation but also helps maintain a more consistent internal temperature, making the environment more comfortable.
One of the best things about cork is its aesthetic versatility. You can cover the walls with cork panels that blend seamlessly with the existing decor. Moreover, cork can be painted or finished to suit your style and the room's design. Installing cork wall coverings is relatively simple, and once done, it requires only occasional cleaning to keep it in excellent condition.
In short, covering walls affected by condensation with cork not only resolves the moisture issue but also offers a durable, aesthetically pleasing solution that improves thermal insulation: a smart choice for healthier and more comfortable spaces.
Rising damp
Walls affected by rising damp present particular challenges, and directly covering them with cork might not be the best solution.
Rising damp is a complex problem that occurs when water from the ground is absorbed by building materials, such as brick or concrete, rising through the walls via capillarity. Directly covering these walls with cork may not address the root cause of the issue.
Cork is excellent at resisting moisture, but if the underlying cause of rising damp is not addressed, it may lead to even greater problems over time. Covering walls affected by rising damp with cork could trap the existing moisture, causing further damage to the material and promoting mold growth behind the covering.

If the issue cannot be solved at its source with special drainage or waterproofing barriers, efforts can be made to correct the effects in various ways:
In more severe cases, the plaster can crumble and detach from the wall. In such cases, it is advisable to replace the old deteriorated plaster with a "dehumidifying" plaster that is suitable for withstanding water passage without damage.
Once the old plaster is replaced with a more suitable one, it is also possible to cover the wall with cork, but care should be taken not to apply finishes that could obstruct the passage and dispersion of rising moisture into the air.
After addressing the underlying cause of rising damp, cork can be used as a covering to improve thermal insulation and absorb any residual moisture.
So, while cork can offer benefits in addressing moisture, it is crucial to first tackle the root cause of rising damp to avoid more severe issues over time and ensure that cork is used effectively and durably.
How to apply cork to walls with Wakol D-3540 adhesive?
To apply thin cork to walls, use our Wakol D-3540 acrylic adhesive. Here are the general steps to follow:
Required materials:
Wakol D-3540 acrylic cork adhesive
Short-pile roller or fine toothed trowel
Thin cork panel
Protective equipment (gloves, if necessary)
Work steps:
Surface preparation: Make sure the wall is clean, dry, and free of dust or dirt that could affect adhesion. If the surface is uneven, apply a fine leveling plaster first.
Acrylic adhesive preparation: Mix or shake the acrylic adhesive well before use to ensure it is uniform and ready for application.
Adhesive application: Use a short-pile roller or fine-toothed trowel. Apply a thin, even layer of acrylic adhesive to the back of the cork panel and a layer to the wall. Be sure to cover the entire surface, paying special attention to the edges and corners.
Placing the cork on the wall: After applying the adhesive, wait for the Wakol layer to become transparent; place the cork panel on the wall, pressing gently but firmly to ensure good adhesion. You can use a trowel or roller to ensure the cork adheres evenly to the wall without forming air bubbles.
Pressure and adjustment: After placing the cork, apply light pressure across the entire surface to ensure even adhesion. Make sure the panel is properly aligned and that there are no raised or protruding areas.
Drying: Let the adhesive dry for 24 hours before applying any finishes to the cork.
It is important to use the adhesive precisely and without excess to avoid getting adhesive on the cork and compromising the aesthetic result.
