It’s in the public eye that the climate is changing. This is proved by the melting of the glaciers with the consequent increase in the level of the seas, the ever more extreme atmospheric phenomena, the progressive desertification and the endemic lack of water registered in many territories once fertile and lush.

According to scholars, the causes of this are due to the emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere that cause the greenhouse effect to increase temperatures. In Italy most of these emissions derive from a partially obsolete building stock and with a strong presence of highly energy-consuming buildings both for winter heating and for summer cooling.

In fact, in the 70s and 80s in Italy, following the economic boom of the 60s, especially in the residential area, it was built a lot and often badly, to the detriment of quality, comfort and beauty. Then there is a lack of awareness of the environment and, especially in rural areas, it was thought to build large houses that could also accommodate their children with their families.

Frequently, the buildings, following a poor design and approximate construction solutions, result in poor quality thermal casings with the presence of thermal bridges and poor air tightness, which cause situations of housing discomfort in addition to the occurrence condensation and mold that undermine the healthiness of the premises and the health of the occupants with problems of asthma, allergies, etc.

Fortunately, in the 90s the situation began to improve, due to the increase in the national energy bill and following the introduction of some laws, starting from the law 10/91, until the European directive 2010/31 EU on buildings with almost zero energy, a greater awareness of the value and importance of the thermo-acoustic insulation of buildings has been acquired, starting to significantly increase the use of the insulators.

In recent years then, thanks to the work of raising awareness of associations such as A.N.A.B. (national association bioecological architecture) as well as the development of the Internet and the greater and easier circulation of thought and information, has gradually been increasing both the environmental awareness that the awarenessa bout the need for more healthy and comfortable buildings, more human-sized and in harmony with nature.

From all this derives an increasing number of designers, builders, supporters, users and fans of green building; this is why we are more and more attentive to the naturalness and the "green" characteristics of the materials, that’s why more and more wooden houses and roofs are built, and the percentage of passive houses and zero-emission buildings increases.

We at Biosughero well know these dynamics, as we know very well the insulating materials on the market for having sold them in over twenty years of activity; and this is why we promote cork, because both in green building and in traditional building we are sure that overall remains the best insulation, the most versatile, and the most performing.

It is true, as our critics say, the initial cost, it is a bit higher compared to other synthetic materials such as polystyrenes and polyurethanes, or to other materials of mineral origin such as glass wool, rock etc., but ... there are innumerable features that make it unique.

Here are some: the duration, the insensitivity to water and humidity, the healthiness, the breathability, the ability to isolate from heat, from cold, from noise, and finally the wide fields of use and the constant and unaltered performances over time, these characteristic make cork the most competitive, complete and suitable material compared to other insulating materials on the market, to isolate and protect our homes in an efficient and natural way. Cork is a sustainable, recyclable, natural and noble material, tested for thousands of years of use as demonstrated by the history of the ancient Egyptians or by finds in the Nuraghe (ancient Sardinian constructions of 4,000 years ago).

It’s an ecological material that has infinite possibilities of applications, its production doesn’t pollute and doesn’t produce waste, on the contrary its cultivation allows the Mediterranean cork to absorb 14 million tons of CO2 every year, and to preserve entire ecosystems such as the Portuguese Montado.

For all these reasons we are sure of the effectiveness of this product that we highly recommend it, not only as a thermal-acoustic insulation coat, as insulation in the roofs, in the interspaces of the walls or under screed, but also as insulating and aesthetic coating of cold, damp and with presence of mold; as valuable flooring both with glue and floating with a noise reduction up to 17 decibels; and finally also as design furniture to make your home more beautiful and original.

If you love yourself, if you love your family, your home and nature make the natural choice.

Choose cork and you will not regret it, never!
